Katherine’s 7th NAREE Honor
Judges at the 2014 National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) competition honored Katherine’s reporting for the seventh time. The judges said, “This columnist can handle the abstract and the esoteric equally well in writing about the psychology of irrational homeowners and LED light bulbs. Katherine attended Cervisama, the annual trade fair of the Spanish tile industry in Valencia.

Katherine presented "New Ways for Home Builders to Get Feedback" at the International Builders' Show in Las Vegas. She described her findings from "road testing" a home builder's furnished model by living in it for two days and her experience living with a family in a partially completed new-home community in suburban Chicago. The Chicago home stay is described in her column "Rethinking the Spec-Built Community."

The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) honored Katherine with its Gold Award (first place) for Best Column All Media at the association's 63rd annual conference in Atlanta.
She also won a Silver Award (second place) in another category, Best Freelance Collection, bringing to six the number of times she's been honored by judges in the annual real estate journalism competition. Read More
The three columns for which Katherine won awards are “Inside Looking Out: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater,” “When a Parent Ages in Place at Your Place: Planning Beyond Design” and “Looming Trend: Recycled Carpet.”
In addition to writing her "Housewatch" columns for the real estate section of The Washington Post, Katherine began blogging for the Post.

Katherine was interviewed by author and radio host Michael Litchfield on his program "Swimming Upstream" on KWMR Radio, Marin County, California. They discussed expectations we have of our homes and why we build the houses we do.
